01
How much does a basic service cost?
A minor service covers gear and brake adjustment, full bolt-check, tyre inflation, chain lube, and a test ride — and we can usually do it while you wait. Labour starts at £25. Consumables like cables, brake pads, or a new chain are charged separately at cost, and we always get your sign-off before touching anything extra.
02
What does a full strip-down service include?
A full service strips the bike to the frame — every bearing is greased or replaced, the drivetrain is deep-cleaned, cables are replaced, and everything is re-assembled to manufacturer torque specs. It is the reset a bike needs every couple of seasons or after a wet winter. Labour is £80, parts on top. Most bikes take one working day.
03
Can you find a creak I can't locate?
Creaks are the most misleading noise in cycling — a bottom bracket creak is often a loose seatpost clamp, and a headset knock can come from a pedal. We do a systematic diagnostic: we isolate the creak under load on the stand, check every interface, and quote before we fix. Diagnostic time is £20, credited against any repair booked.
04
My wheel is buckled. Can you true it?
Minor truing — correcting a lateral wobble under 3mm — is £15 per wheel and usually done same-day. A wheel that has taken an impact and needs full tensioning and dish correction is £30 per wheel. If the rim is cracked or the damage is structural, we will tell you straight: a rebuild or replacement will cost less in the long run than chasing a compromised rim.
05
My bottom bracket is ticking on every pedal stroke.
A ticking BB is almost always bearing wear, contamination, or a loose cup. We service threaded BBs for £30–£40 including re-grease and torque. Press-fit BBs cost a little more depending on the standard. If the shell threads are damaged, a re-tap is £20 and usually saves the frame. Parts are quoted separately — we stock Shimano and Praxis as standard.
06
My hydraulic brakes feel spongy. Do you bleed brakes?
Yes — a full hydraulic bleed with new mineral oil or DOT fluid and fresh pads is £30 per brake. We work with Shimano, SRAM, and Magura systems. If the caliper pistons are seized or the hose needs replacing, we quote before proceeding. Spongy levers are almost always air in the system — a bleed sorts it permanently.
07
Do you work on e-bikes?
We service the mechanical side of e-bikes fully — drivetrain, brakes, wheels, cables — on all brands. For motor and battery diagnostics on Bosch and Shimano STEPS systems we have the software to read error codes and advise on warranty routes. We do not open motor units, but we can tell you whether the issue is electrical or mechanical before you spend money in the wrong place.
08
Can you rebuild wheels, or just true them?
Full wheel builds from scratch — lacing, tensioning, dishing, and stress-relieving — are something we do properly. A standard 32-hole rebuild on supplied parts takes half a day of bench time and costs £60–£80 labour depending on the spoke count and pattern. We can source hubs and rims or work with parts you bring in. Handbuilt wheels hold true longer than machine-built equivalents.
Every quote is free. We inspect the bike, write up what we find, and you decide what to authorise. No surprises, no work started without your say-so.
